2010, MONDO Arc UK, OCT/NOV 2010 ISSUE – Inspirations #3

Thanks to the invitation by LIGHT COLLECTIVE UK, whenlightswork contributed our inspiration page for MONDO Arc, the International Magazine for Architectural, Retail and Commercial Lighting.

It was then when I relook at what and how I was inspired by lighting, and fundamentally, it is the appearance of cities at night.

Cities in the day and how it appears at night had always been something that is fundamentally intriguing for swee. Not just because the topic is a mixture of urban design ideas, but it involves ideas presented by environmental psychologist, urban planning, human behaviorist, human anthropological studies, or simply, what controls our perception of space at night. During my travels to numerous European and Asian Cities, I was stuck by how the cities celebrate light on our own unique ways, and even our attitude to our nights is shaped by distinctive traits in our culture and ideas.

Perhaps, it is what makes us different that creates the variety we see in our nights.

So, I will hope to launch into a series of research next year, for a planned top secret project by whenlightswork, by studying and writing about asian night cities.
