The following is extracted from an article Swee had written for the Illuminating Engineering Association of Thailand journal, which was published under the April-June 2009 issue of the said journal.
After 6 activities packed days at the Milan Fairgrounds, the 25th edition of the Euroluce had concluded in the city of Milan. This year, the biennale international lighting event had attracted 525 exhibitors, of which 175 exhibitors originated from 25 different countries. Across an area of approximately 43,000 square meters, various types and design of lighting products, from light sources to urban illumination fixtures, were on display.
From the highlights noted in most of the stands, the favour of the year is, once again, Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting fitting. However, the spotlight is not solely on the LED fittings or products that had flaunted the latest technological development. As seen from the different exhibitors, pushing the design limit is still on many manufacturers’ key agenda. Products from notable lighting manufacturer like Flos and Artemide, often demonstrated an ingenious combination of innovation and creativity, whilst displaying a harmonious marriage between lighting technicalities and craftsmanship. At Artemide stand, a surrealistic environment was created through contrasting their products against the mass white space. Also, attention was drawn to their collaboration acclaimed designers like Karim Rashid and Ross Lovegrove that resulted in a series of visually striking designs.
